It turned out better than many fruited spice cakes or bread puddings made with conventional ingredients.

I have always tried to live as self sustainable a life as is realistic, which became much more difficult after I was given an unexpected turn in life as a result of being hit by a driver who was on their cell phone, then left on the road to potentially die… despite this I have managed to continue to embrace as independent a life as is possible by doing things such as creating raised beds so I can still continue gardening and growing most of my own food. It has meant many changes besides raised beds to garden, such as my greenhouse having the shelves lowered, a root cellar that is now handicap accessible, and our wood heated home altered with a chute so the wood can go directly from the storage area right to a bin next to the wood stove downstairs. As I continue to adjust, the next alteration is changing the height of our kitchen counters and making the appliances more accessible so I can hopefully return to preserving my food again. As part of that I have been exploring the idea of learning to make cheese, something I was interested in learning long before my life was given this unexpected jump off the original rails I had been on prior. Winning this kit, or the book would be a great inspiration as I continue to adjust the world around me to meet my new limitations without compromising on a lifestyle I am totally dedicated to.

Crock-pot Yogurt
Ingredients:
8 cups whole milk
4 tablespoons yogurt
Directions:
Add milk to slow cooker and turn on low. Cook for 2-1/2 hours.
Unplug slow cooker and let sit for 3 hours.
After the 3 hours, scoop out 1 cup milk and whisk with yogurt in a separate bowl. Pour back into slow cooker and stir to combine.
Leave your slow cooker unplugged and wrap it in a heavy towel to keep the heat in. Let it sit undisturbed for at least 8 hours.
After 8 hours, you should have yogurt!
